Life and death

Of all creatures of the Earth, humankind is the only one that is aware that once we are born, we will certainly die one day. We humans are the only species that can laugh and make others laugh: we can enjoy life.

To make someone laugh and bring happiness means to divert their thoughts from death.

So, what will the readers gain, and what is this book about?

From instinct to awareness

In the first part of our book, in the chapter entitled “From Instinct to Awareness,” we write about the philosophy of Hendrik Johannes Cruyff. This is the basis and starting point of everything we present here. Then we give an overview of the beginnings of Hungarian football, the grund, and talk about its best-known legend, Ferenc Puskás. We recall the past of the “Hungarian grund” in order to understand the thinking, philosophy and development of Hungarian football.

The present is largely defined by the past: “Without the past, there is no future, and the richer your past, the more ties you have with the future.”

(Mihály Babits)

Time is brought into play by our past. Then why was it unimportant before, and why has it become so important in our lives today? Why did time become vital in football?

Time

Ernő Szemző’s text (The World of Sport, 1930) talks about the links between time and style: “We should link an athlete’s movement to thinking because this is what gives everyone their own individual style.” Our individual style will always be a benchmark in the world of sport, since the principle of movement creates a vital connection between space and time, and it does matter how we can benefit from all of this, and how we can achieve balance.

 Balance

Balance makes the world go on, so we strive to achieve it as human beings, as coaches and as teachers, too. We look for balance in our team when we are training, teaching the young or putting together a team. Balance will be vital in the match, the strategy, the team sections, when we make substitutions or when we analyze the game, so basically in every area. If the situation is not optimal, we intervene. We always consciously aim for balance, so in the chapter on balance, we provide a map of sorts to this.

The profession above all else

The basis of our thinking is the emergence of FOOTBALL PRINCIPLES in the sport, as Cruyff conceived them. We would like to go further in modern football training, since apart from describing these principles, the most important thing is to teach and follow them, and especially to prove and improve them, in order to incorporate them in the technique and tactics. This is how the defense line comes into play as the foundation of leading an attack in the football of the future.

The defense lines

We conclude our book with perhaps our most valuable contribution to the art of leading attacks in the future: how to teach a winning formation in the attacks of the future. That is, we lay the foundations of how to use the defense line in leading an attack.
